Athlete Fashion

Once a symbol of a supporter’s deep passion for a club, these polyester shirts have been destigmatized and fully integrated into the fashion discourse, which makes it hard to distinguish true fans from fashionistas.

Come World Cup time, some countries, like France and Brazil, double down on their storied tournament history, choosing to always opt for the traditional over the sublime. Others, however, take their time on the world stage to exhibit what makes their own personal brand of swag. Enter Nigeria ‘18.

Eyes may have paused at Australia’s wild yellow kits, or the classic cut of England’s all whites, but it was one flashy white-and-green jersey that stole the show. Nigeria’s triangle patterned home kit became not just the best one revealed for this tournament; it instantly became the hottest piece of soccer gear since Juventus’s Drake-modeled pink jersey from the 2015-2016 season. The apparel that brings the “story” of a country to life through soccer.

Such high demand for a Nigerian jersey was unprecedented, but its unique retro design made it broadly appealing to fashionistas and sports enthusiasts alike. Featuring a lime green and white zigzag pattern, the Nike-designed jersey sold out in a matter of minutes.

Getting back on the subject, classic shirts! A thing of fashion some say. Kim K’s been rocking an AS Roma classic kit. AS Roma is officially cool. Not like it were’nt cool before! Just Kim K’s level of cool now. I swear those Kardashians got some different powers.

Another intresting rise has been footballer fashion. Long gne are the days of Gareth Bale turning up to Real Madrid training in a deep V-neck and skin-tight white 3/4th trousers, no like seriously, what the actual f**k! The game has now been taken over by the new wave of footballers with a unique fashion sense. Driven by the likes of some of football’s best dressed, Joules Kounde, Moise Kean, and not to forget, the OG of the game, a man deeply rooted in football and fashion, Hector Bellerin.

Footballer Fits is an Instagram page that is exclusive to athlete fashion whether it be men’s or women’s sports. The growing rise and popularity of these pages even increase the likelihood of getting more and more athletes to mark their unique sense of fashion around the world.

Lastly, have to add something about India as well! Cricket has seen a major overhaul in terms of the athletes as well as their dressing sense. Cricketers in India are in a sense how footballers are in other countries, I mean Hardik Pandya casually rocking AP’s or Pateks along with other cricketing royalty such as Virat Kohli etc.
